Art Tactics for Algorithmic Resistance

Art Tactics for Algorithmic Resistance in Egypt and the SWANA Region A six-month initiative launched by the Arab Digital Expression Foundation (ADEF) to foster digital rights awareness and counter algorithmic bias and surveillance through creative practice

**Art Tactics for Algorithmic Resistance in Egypt and the SWANA Region** is a six-month initiative launched by the Arab Digital Expression Foundation (ADEF) to explore how artistic practice can bolster digital rights awareness and community resilience against algorithmic bias. The project brings together a cohort of refugee and local artists in Egypt through a digital security workshop and an intensive residential art lab, where participants examine the social impacts of AI systems, algorithmic discrimination, and digital surveillance. Working alongside digital rights and multimedia experts, participants develop creative responses using diverse artistic mediums, such as glitch art, soundscapes, video, and social media storytelling. Selected artistic concepts receive seed funding and ongoing mentorship to support their production. The resulting works are compiled into an open-source "Resistance Toolkit," designed for use by artists, civil society organizations, and educators to raise awareness about digital rights and algorithmic accountability. By bridging creative expression with digital rights education, the project aims to demystify complex technical issues, empower artists as community advocates, and contribute to cultivating a stronger culture of digital sovereignty across Egypt and the SWANA region.
