<p>Youssef Gouda: </p> <hr /> <div>Film Workshop<br /> <br /> Course objectives: understanding the filmmaking process<br /> understand and appreciate film as an art<br /> use film as a form of expression<br /> not become bound by limits<br /> understand that film is as much as message as it is entertainment<br /> make a film<br /> <br /> Brief: The course's main activity will be dividing 2 teams that will make separate films, during the making of the film they will learn about the filmmaking process , at the end of the course both films will be reviewed and a winner of both teams will be announced<br /> <br /> <br /> Day 1: Intro to the course<br /> <br /> The teachers begin by introducing themselves, then get to know a little bit about each student asking<br /> What's your name?<br /> Where do you live ?<br /> What's the last movie you saw?<br /> What's your favorite movie?<br /> <br /> <br /> Discuss the course briefly saying how the course is planned out and what will happen on each day<br /> Organize the two teams<br /> <br /> Discuss the aims of the course<br /> <br /> Show a sample of a video made in adef by the teachers to show the students what they should be capable of making in the workshop<br /> <br /> The rest of the session can be used in a range of activities like:<br /> Watch clips from films and talk about them discussing (style, techniques, genres, etc.)<br /> <br /> Charades<br /> <br /> (Practice at shooting a scene)<br /> <br /> If the students have any time after the sessions, they could watch a film<br /> <br /> <br /> Day 2-3 Writing<br /> <br /> Begin by discussing the direction each teams wants to take with their film whether its Social, Political or just for entertainment<br /> <br /> Train them on forming an opinion and finding a way in order to express that opinion<br /> <br /> Then have the team choose a style or genre that they wish to use to put forward their ideas/message<br /> <br /> With an aim and style planned, the team begins to form a rough story, that accomplishes the aim of the film<br /> If the team is having trouble coming up with a story, they can look at/take ideas from movies that have a similar message to theirs, they can then adapt the movie's story for their film<br /> <br /> Then by the end of the first day of writing, the team, along with the teachers develop the story into a plot and have a set of characters the are in the film<br /> <br /> With a plot and characters in mind the team would use the remainder of the team writing a script of the dialogue between the characters<br /> The point of this section of the course is, by the end, to have a clear idea of the film like (how it will look?, how long?, what's its purpose, etc.)<br /> <br /> <br /> Day 4-5 Pre-Production<br /> <br /> Explain the role of pre production in the overall filmmaking process and how important it is<br /> <br /> The role of pre production is to organism and prepare all the elements needed to film the movie on the day of recording<br /> <br /> The teachers will help the teams organize their film for the next stage of the course (Filming)<br /> <br /> The students will read through their script and write down the things that they need such as<br /> Cameras<br /> Lights<br /> Microphones<br /> Tripods<br /> Props<br /> Costumes<br /> Set<br /> Other pieces of equipment<br /> <br /> The students will also organize the following elements that will make shooting easier such as<br /> Location<br /> Whether or not they will need special effects<br /> Green screen<br /> Casting Actors<br /> Rehearsing with actors<br /> Appointing a certain roles (director, producer, etc.)<br /> <br /> <br /> Day 6-8 Filming<br /> <br /> This stage will be each team filming their own projects on camera<br /> Through this stage the teachers will teach the students different elements of filming such as <br /> Lighting<br /> Sound<br /> Setting up cameras and camera angles<br /> Using a green screen<br /> <br /> The stage will also teach the students the problems that come with filming and how they can manage them<br /> <br /> <br /> Day 9-10 Post-Production<br /> <br /> Post-Production is the stage after filming where the pieces of footage taken during filming will be put together and edited in order to produce the movie<br /> <br /> Both teams will have a computer and begin work on<br /> The editing of the film <br /> Montages<br /> Sound mixing<br /> Adding special effects<br /> <br /> At the end of this stage the movie (and the course) should be complete<br /> <br /> <br /> Day 11 Presentation<br /> <br /> This is almost like a celebration that the course is over<br /> Students are free to invite family and friends<br /> A projector will be set up along with seats<br /> Both of the team's films will be presented in front of the audience<br /> The audience will then provide feedback and a team of judges will decide the winner between the two teams</div>
